Dan Korhonen Documentary Films: Iron Town & Saving Our Theatre

Saving our Theatre & Iron Town Documentaries

Hard work helped Dan Korhonen turn a hobby into realizing a dream. It started with “The Iron Town,” a short documentary film about his hometown, the city of Negaunee, in 2022.

Korhonen, who says he has always been community-minded, works for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as an electronics technician for the fish hatcheries in the DNR’s northern region.

Saving Our Theatre – a documentary from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula by Director Dan Korhonen and Assistant Producer Matt Honold – the film explores the challenges facing three upper Michigan theater groups and how they plan to survive and provide value to their communities as cultural hubs.

Iron Town: The discovery of iron ore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and how one small town hopes to outlive the industry that followed.
