Crystal Theatre Manager Job Description

Most importantly, the manager of Crystal Theatre must have a passion for the performing arts, an appreciation for Crystal Theatre’s history, and a vision for its future; the manager must exhibit a cooperative, congenial attitude with the theatre’s Board of Directors, volunteers, and patrons.

In general, the Crystal Theatre manager…

  • Oversees the administrative aspects of the theatre and is responsible for day-to-day operations.  
  • Works with the Board of Directors to address the financial, marketing, and organizational concerns necessary to operate a successful theatre.
  • Works closely with the stage manager to ensure that events  are professionally executed.  
  • Ensures the facilities are properly maintained and adhere to safety regulations
  • Plans and schedules a variety of events that will appeal to patrons from the local and surrounding area; consults with the program committee. 
  • Recruits talent and negotiates with performers and/or agencies to agree on specific events, dates, fees and other services; manages contracts with these provisions.
  • Designs and executes a cohesive overall marketing and advertising strategy for the season and for individual shows that utilizes a variety of media: print, radio, TV, and electronic; taps volunteer and/or professional assistance as needed.
  • Networks with local businesses, community organizations and schools.
  • Exhibits competency in computer skills, public speaking, writing for the purpose of publicity, negotiation and organization.

More specifically, the Crystal Theatre manager(s) will perform the following tasks and responsibilities.  Actual implementation can vary depending upon volunteer availability and skills.

PROGRAMMING

  • Secure talent for live performances at Crystal Theatre
    • Research available talent
    • Maintain relationships with agents and talent
    • Negotiate talent fees 
    • Negotiate dates
    • Execute contracts
    • Coordinate with Stage Manager on staging needs
    • Secure W-9 and additional documentation such as needed with international performers.
    • Coordinate with treasurer for payment of talent fees per contracts
    • Secure room and board per contracts
    • Secure publicity materials 
    • Coordinate services w Stage Manager
      • Piano tuning
      • Backline rental
  • Maintain a calendar of activity at the Theatre and in the area
    • Public
    • Internal – includes meetings, other activities affecting programing
  • Day of event Coordination
    • Coordinate available volunteers
    • Facility prepared
