Missoula Children’s Theatre returns to Crystal Theatre this August 10 – 14 for a theater workshop and presentation of “Treasure Island.” This five-day experience is open to youth entering grades 1 – 12, at no cost to the participants.

The MCT workshop kicks off on Monday morning, August 10, at Crystal Theatre with auditions and Registration.   Participants should arrive at 9:30 am CDT and plan to stay for at least the morning session. Approximately 50 roles are available for local students. All students, (grades 1- 12) are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation or experience is necessary. Most students rehearse approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes each day, Monday through Friday. Not all cast members will attend all rehearsals.  A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition.

Performance is scheduled for Friday August 14, 7:00 pm CDT.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.

MCT at Crystal Theatre is funded in part by a grant from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) Copper Country Arts Council (CCAC).  It is sponsored by Tall Pines of Amasa, MI.
